Historic Home Renovation on Main Street in Moorestown, NJ

It was a unique challenge to create a corporate headquarters for Bayada Home Health Care in an 1858 home while undertaking a complete interior historic home renovation. R. Craig Lord Construction Company, located in Moorestown, NJ, was ready for the challenge.  First, a selective demolition uncovered clues to the past, but with only minimal original features remaining, the challenge began.  A yearlong historic architectural investigation followed by a full demolition and almost a year of construction culminated in a historically impeccable renovation, despite only having twenty percent of the original features present at the start. The result is a stunning and appropriate historic renovation blending period appropriate conference rooms and offices while maintaining commercial building codes and integrating modern conveniences.    Key elements included:  a three-story staircase with an octagonal oculus, sixteen room renovations including a Kitchen and three Bathrooms, custom woodwork and plaster, and a third floor with an open floor plan, and a rear entry ramp entering to a two-story foyer.

The completed rooms show the detailed work done and the before photos show the condition of the room before demolition.

Countertop Buying Guide

Picking the right countertop for your kitchen or bathroom might sound simple at first, but there are several important factors to consider when making your selection. While everyone wants a countertop that looks great and matches the rest of the room, appearance alone is not an ideal way to determine if a countertop will be right for you in the long run.

The first thing you should take into consideration is the countertop material. There are several types: natural stone countertops (granite, marble, sandstone); engineered stone countertops made of quartz and resin; wooden countertops like maple butcher blocks or bamboo; stainless steel countertops; ceramic tile; and concrete. Some are more resistant to stains or abrasions, more tolerant to heat and impacts, and durable enough for you to slice and chop food on directly.

The All-Season Sunroom – Year ‘Round Living

The addition of an All-season Sunroom can be one of the best changes you make to your home.  All-season sunrooms have many advantages over screened-in porches. A heated sunroom extends the usability to 365 days a year, no matter the weather is outside, something that isn’t possible with a screened-in porch in the Northeast.

Sunrooms create additional livable square footage, and an open floor plan can integrate the sunroom into the flow of your home in a way that can’t be achieved with a screened-in porch. With the ability to open and close windows whenever you wish, you can keep your investment clean and keep dust and pollen from infiltrating the rest of your home.

R. Craig Lord Construction Company’s renovation and remodel of this historic home for Bayada Home Health Care is entering the wallpaper installation stage and no detail has been left out of this restoration. Although wallpaper has faded in popularity in recent years, it was fashionable in the 1850’s. With the integration of modern technology from England, by the 1850’s America was making 95% of their own wallpaper.  Combined with a sharp decrease in the postage rate in 1857, magazines showcasing wall paper patterns and advice were reaching more homeowners.  And in turn, popularity rose.  Here are some photos of the wallpaper in this historic remodel located on Main Street in Moorestown, NJ.

Historic homes owe a great deal of charm to their grand staircases and our homeowner has gone to great lengths to restore it fully.  The restoration of this three-story staircase has been a multi-step process for R. Craig Lord Construction Company.  Originally, these stairs were in disrepair and unusable.  Through attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and a passion for preservation, the stairs have reclaimed its rightful place in this home.  It took carefully removing, restoring, and replicating spindles, restoring original wood tread and replacing those that couldn’t be saved, and creating a custom mahogany banister to fit the unique curves and bends of the staircase.
